While the number of workplace homicides has not fluctuated greatly in the last several years, the frequency of employees who threaten to kill or cause disruption of business  has increased significantly.  The areas of workplace violence, threat management, critical incident response and domestic terrorism pose new risks for the community.  The process of managing threats, violence and disasters is extremely complex and difficult.  These events occur in low frequency but incur a high degree of legal and moral liability.  It is the job of the company to protect their employees.  Because of this, it can be difficult for in house operations to mitigate the risks associated with workplace violence. However, active corporate programs geared to preventing violence in the workplace have been effective tools in reducing the number and severity of violent workplace incidents and in demonstrating to employees and others that workplace safety is the company’s foremost concern.

Workplace Violence and Active Shooters are sometimes a cause and effect scenario.  Of course, not all active shooters are disgruntled employees but in some scenarios,, learning early to deal accordingly with all workplace violence and implementing a zero tolerance policy,  you can intercept a possible active shooter scenario before it happens.
